Streets Of Laredo lyrics by Smothers Brothers
“As I walked out on the streets of Laredo, As I walked out in Laredo one day, I spied a young cowboy all wrapped in white linen Wrapped in white linen as cold as the clay. I see by your outfit that you are a cowboy; I see by your outfit you are a cowboy, too; we see by our outfits that we are both cowboys. If you get an outfit, you can be a cowboy, too”.
Does it not offer a degree of amazement that the lyrics apply to The Useless Generation (TUG)? Realizing this writer is not placing ALL twenty something’s under the umbrella of TUG; I believe an overabundance of these umbilical connected electronic toy users are illiterate regarding integrity; tip of the melting berg. Remaining in constant contact is necessary so no one can gain the upper hand or lighting will sever his or her servers.
Narcissist to the hilt, not only peppering every sentence spoken with “like”, the goal of social media is a quest for the most likes. It is all about me logic, which blankets all corrective wisdom. They are unreachable and arrogant, increasing auto insurance rates (via text) by rear-ending innocent folks waiting for a light to change. A make believe world puts its arms around them, providing instant satisfaction. All objects from cars to flat screens are disposable; “mom and dad better by gosh get me a new one”!
TUGS lack common sense, caring for others, simple mathematics, cooking, cleaning and history are not part of thought. Oh, slight error… Most have a phenomenal knowledge of historic turn signals. “Lets see…I already turned the corner causing the vehicle behind me to careen off a light pole, better flick on those turn signals”.
The size of their carbon footprint is important; however playing video games 24/7 somehow negates the carbon deal. It is perfectly OK to toss garbage out the window as you drive along, going no where in particular, burning gas as if it were water, but one must separate plastic from paper to save our Mother Earth.
Many men and women died to protect their freedom but it is just fine to cherry pick The Constitution. Coexist bumper stickers on the rear of smashed up cars, less than one year old, size them up for what they really are; a drain on society. I feel better already…
Oh yes, “The Streets of Laredo” and how it still fits in; why is it that you cannot ride a bicycle unless you are dressed from head to toe in an outfit? A pair of jeans and a tee shirt would cause you to fall off. A twenty-five minute ride requires three water bottles strapped to the bike man utility belt. TUGS must keep up with the other TUGS; this requires owning the latest and greatest toys.
A lover of self, devoid of any charitable care, needs to be a part of a group. Why, you may ask, is that important? To find acceptance, that is why. When you are cold and lonely, you need an outfit.
